Do you live in a non-Arab country? looking for the best way to learn Quran online? If your answer is yes, this article is for you!
This article aims to provide all the answers about how to find the best way to learn Quran online easily for you as a non-Arabic speaker. But before anything, let’s shed light on the best way to learn Quran online!
What Is The Best Way to Learn Quran Online?
The Holy Quran is a divine revelation by Allah on his messenger Mohammed (peace be upon him) who was an Arabic messenger, sent by Allah to us. So, the holy Quran is written in the Arabic language. “in a clear Arabic language”. (Quran, 26:195).
“in a clear Arabic language“.
— Quran, 26:195
It won’t be so easy for you to learn its grammar and intonations (Tajweed) by yourself. Because The Arabic language is very rich in sounds and meanings.
That’s why the best way to learn Quran online is to get a native Arabic speaker tutor who masters Quran recitation with Tajweed and has experience in teaching Quran, Tajweed, and the Arabic language.
Having a native Arabic speaker tutor will make your way to learning Quran much easier. As your Arab tutor is going to teach you the proper way to say the Arabic letters and intonations, they will also teach you Tajweed, Quran recitation, and Tafseer (Quran explanation) which they master.
On the other hand, non-Arabic speakers obviously won’t be able to teach the Arabic language properly, compared to a native Arabic speaker tutor. Non-Arabic speakers (in most cases) would not get the right intonations (Tajweed) and the right pronunciation of each letter without being taught by an Arabic teacher.
What Guarantees Me That My Tutor Is Qualified to Teach Quran?
Holding an Ijazah. Ijazah is a Quran teaching license, and this license can only be gained from another tutor/Shaikh by reciting the whole Quran by heart to them.
Ijazah establishes the narration of the Quran through a chain of authorized transmitters going back to the Prophet Mohammad. That’s why the Ijazah holder is the most qualified person to teach Quran in the proper way, the way the prophet Mohammed peace be upon him recited it. That also leads us to a very important point, which is what you should consider when choosing your Quran tutor if you want to learn Quran online.
Two Important Qualities to Consider in Your Quran Tutor
There are several points that you should take into account when you’re choosing your Quran tutor. As mentioned before, you should look for a native Arabic speaker tutor. Yet, not every Arabic speaker is eligible for being a Quran tutor. But here are the most important qualities:-
Islamic Educational Background
Your tutor should have an Islamic educational background in the Quran. In addition to having a degree in Islamic studies or Quran studies, which they will teach you. You can’t get the right information from someone unless they’re qualified from an Islamic institution. Such as Al Azhar University or Institute for Qeraat etc.
These Islamic institutions graduate thousands of masters in the Arabic language, Quran, and Islamic studies, who are qualified to teach Quran and Islamic studies in a professional way.
Your tutor’s Ijazah (Quran teaching license). As mentioned before, is so important because you can’t have the Ijazah unless you recite Quran to an Ijazah holder by heart. Besides, if your tutor has an Ijazah, that mean that they master Tajweed, recitation, and has memorized Quran.
Additionally, you should know how many Qiraat (Readings of the Quran) they know which might be useful for you if you want to learn Qiraat. And that is also related to Ijazah. It’s preferred that you choose an Azhary tutor (tutor who studied in Al Azhar) or at least a tutor that studied Islamic studies because your tutor not only will teach you Quran, but also will make you understand each verse and the meaning behind it.
Experience
Your tutor’s experiences, the ability to deliver information, communication skills, session leadership, and time management. all mentioned abilities are very important, and they depend on the tutor’s experience in teaching. You can check other students’ feedback about the tutor before joining the class. A lot of tutors have the knowledge and information, yet not all of them can teach properly. So, consider this point.
What’s Better? Online or Face-to-Face Learning?
Many reasons lead a non-Arab Muslim to look for the best way to learn Quran online. But in fact, learning Quran should be taught face-to-face in normal cases. However, if you’re living in a non-Arab country, sometimes it would be hard to find an Arabic tutor to learn Quran face-to-face. So the best choice, in this case, is to find an Arabic Quran tutor that teaches Quran online. However, It’s possible to open the camera between tutor and student to get the best experience in Quran classes.
During your lifetime in a non-Islamic country, you may be away from Islamic traditions and the teachings of Islam. So, learning Quran would make you understand Islam and its teachings easily. Yet it takes a little bit a long time to memorize all of it. There are some tips you should consider when you learn Quran with your tutor. Those tips are going to make your memorization process faster and also going to make you never forget Quran.
Always Remember The Great Virtue of Learning Quran
Before starting, keep in mind that you’re spending time doing a great deed which is reciting, memorizing, and learning the words of Allah. So clear your mind and focus on your goal.
Ask Your Tutor about Everything That You Don’t Understand
Always concentrate your mind on every single piece of information that your tutor gives. Yet, ask them about what you don’t understand. But always remember to ask them when they fully finish explaining, sometimes the answer to your question comes before you even ask. If it didn’t, take notes and ask eventually.
Take Notes
Focusing is great. However, we may forget. As a result, take notes of the information your tutor shares and read it again when the class ends.
Recite What You’ve Learned in Prayers

The Virtue of Learning Quran As A Non-Arabic Speaker
“By which Allah guides those who pursue His pleasure to the ways of peace and brings them out from darknesses into the light, by His permission, and guides them to a straight path“.
— (Quran, 5:16).
Quran and Sunnah teach us to always recite Quran and learn it. And teach us also that the Muslim who reads Quran is always better to Allah than those who don’t. Let’s see some verses and Hadiths that show the importance of Quran recitation.
Allah says “Those to whom We have given the Book recite it with its true recital. They [are the ones who] believe in it. And whoever disbelieves in it – it is they who are the losers”. (Quran, 2:121).
Abu Mūsa al-Ash‘ari (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The example of a believer who recites the Qur’an is like that of a citron; it smells good and tastes good. While the believer who does not recite the Qur’an is like a date, which has no smell and is good in taste. And the example of a hypocrite who recites the Qur’an is like a sweet basil; it tastes bitter but smells good. And the example of a hypocrite who does not recite the Qur’an is like the colocynth, which has no smell and tastes bitter”.
In addition, the prophet Mohammed emphasizes that whoever reads Quran, while Quran is so hard for them to learn will get an extra reward in the hereafter because of the hardships that they face.
‘Ā’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The one who recites the Qur’an skillfully will be in the company of the noble and righteous messenger-angels and the one who reads the Qur’an, but stutters and finds it difficult, receives a double reward”.
So always be sure that you will always find your efforts’ reward, in this life or in the hereafter. As Allah says in Quran “Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds – indeed, We will not allow to be lost the reward of any who did well in deeds”. (Quran, 18:30).
With that being said, Learning Quran is a must for everyone. It’s our path to heaven and good life. So do not hesitate. Just trust in Allah and start learning Quran and teach it to your family. We wish you all the success in your journey in learning Quran.
